Kuwait: Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has taken a significant step in enhancing its defense capabilities through a direct deal with Türkiye. The agreement, valued at a total of $367 million, involves the procurement of cutting-edge Bayraktar TB2 drones. This milestone deal signifies Kuwait’s commitment to bolstering its military strength.
According to the Ministry’s statement, these drones possess exceptional technical capabilities for conducting surveillance, targeting missions, and providing crucial intelligence information. Notably, these drones can carry a variety of weapons, including laser-directed missiles and smart bombs.
Furthermore, during tests conducted in Kuwait in July 2019, the Bayraktar TB2 drones exhibited remarkable endurance by flying continuously for an astonishing 27 hours and 3 minutes, even under challenging climatic conditions such as high temperatures, winds, and sandstorms. This impressive feat set a new record.
Renowned as the world’s premier drone, the Bayraktar TB2 boasts remarkable specifications. Moreover, with dimensions of 6.5 in length and 12 meters in width, these drones can operate continuously for 24 hours and can carry a maximum load of 650 kg at a speed of 130 km/h.
The Cabinet was apprised of the Ministry’s contract with the Turkish side on the TB2 drones during its session on June 7, 2023. The entire process adhered to the country’s laws, and regulations, and received approval from regulatory authorities.
Additionally, it encompasses the provision of essential maintenance and logistical supplies, ground tests, technical updates, and the creation of a simulation system, which will receive technical support for a period of three years. Moreover, the agreement also involves comprehensive training programs for national pilots and technicians.
Kuwait joins the ranks of 28 countries globally as well as some GCC states in signing such a significant deal. This is a testament to the growing global recognition of the Bayraktar TB2 drones’ unmatched capabilities.
